  • Quick and easy to install

Cons:

Weighing in at only 23 pounds, these dual flush toilets are among the lightest in their category. They manage to keep this low-weight while being relatively powerful and with the seats attached, they work out to only two inches more than the standard compact toilets.

They come with the standard elongated bowl design which adds a little bit more space for the user. Moreover, they are ETL certified which means that they are the only product that has been tested and approved under the standards of Standard M1650-98. This guarantees that they will perform at the highest level of quality for people of all ages.

The dual flushing system is fantastic experience for the user. It is designed to handle liquid wastes at first, saving water for more serious emergencies. The first flush has a 1.6 gallon capacity and uses only a single gallon of water if used correctly. The second flush, on the other hand, is 1.28 gallons and uses only a single gallon of water.

Pros:

  • Won’t clog
  • Service is great
  • Assembled easily
  • Side handles for easy lifting
  • Made in the USA

Cons:

  • The seat had to be replaced because it was damaged when we received the product.

This is actually two separate reviews because we had two of them installed at the same time. First the American Standard 2887.216.020 H2 Option 2-Piece Dual Flush Toilet with 12-In Rough, White.

Everything was as advertised. My installer, who has installed dozens of toilets in his career, called this the best dual flush toilet on the market. It is efficient. It is durable. It does not cost a fortune. It fits readily into our line of prewar townhouses and rehabs. The color matches the old standard, white, and the seat is solid but comfortable.

The flush is almost silent, just a soft rattle. The seat comes down only about 90 degrees so there is a chance that if you come in at an angle the seat rim will not hit the bowl’s rim squarely and you will go over. This can easily be overcome by pulling the seat all the way down when you use the toilet. This has not been a problem for us.

Our top pick is Toto’s Aquia wall-mounted dual-flush toilet. This toilet is equipped with an innovative Japanese dual-flush system that’s designed for maximum water savings. The revolutionary technology used in this set allows the user to save water by simply pushing the button.

Another factor that was taken into consideration is the price. Since Toto is one of the most expensive brands in the toilet industry, the Aquia was definitely evaluated with this in mind. However, we determined that this set is an excellent value for what you pay for.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the most water efficient toilet?

Of course, this is a complicated question. That is because water efficiency depends on many factors including the user, the flush cycle, the amount of water softener in the water, etc. However, the most water efficient toilets these days are dual-flush toilets.

Many dual-flush toilets have the option of a half-flush that uses 1.6 gallons and a full-flush that uses 3 gallons (or even more). The half-flush option is very useful when you only need to flush a small amount and you can save a lot of water in the process.

Do dual flush toilets really save water?

Yes, absolutely! The average person usually needs an 8-gallon flush to get the job done. However, a 4-gallon flush is adequate in most situations, so you only need to switch the lever once. If you flush more often, you will be able to extend the toilet's lifespan.

Since dual-flush toilets use so much less water than regular lavatories, you will also find that your water bill is significantly lower if you purchase one of these units. According to the EPA, as much as 30% of water consumption is used on flushing the john. Dual flush toilets can cut your water consumption from 30% to as much as 50%.

What are the best dual flush toilets?

The key factors here are flushing power and water efficiency. If we look at the average American's toilet habits, many flush without thinking. Not to digress but that topic alone could be the basis of a college course.

In any event, water efficiency is a key factor to consider when shopping for dual flush toilets. And while most of the toilets we reviewed have similar flushing power, the US EPA estimates that the average person annually flushes away 1.6 gallons of water every time they flush the toilet. What’s more, a 2017 Consumer Reports ShopSmart report found that 70% of the toilets on the market don’t achieve the required 1.28 gallons of water per flush.

Is dual flush toilets worth it?

Dual flush toilets are significantly more expensive than standard models. If you have an existing toilet that works adequately, there is definitely no need to rip the toilet out and replace it with a dual flush unit.

If you are in the market for a new toilet, however, there are a few factors you'll want to consider before purchasing. The most important factor is by far water conservation. If conservation is a primary concern of yours and dual flush toilets satisfy that goal, then look no further.

Conclusion

Welcome to our definitive guide on the best dual flush toilet for water efficiency. We hope that this guide helps you in making a better choice for your bathroom. We are confident that you will find your next bathroom upgrade at a price that is easy on your pocketbook.
